About AMWC

Welcome to the Australian Muslim Welfare Centre

Australian Muslim Welfare Centre Incorporated (AMWC) (AMWC) is a registered, non-profit, independent, non-political, charitable community welfare organisation serving the Muslim community living in south-west Sydney, Australia. The AMWC was established in 2007, and its office and other facilities are located on its five-acre property at 13-17 Eagleview Road.

The main aim of AMWC is to foster a strong Australian Muslim culture within the community, through establishing a holistic Islamic community hub in which religious, cultural and social activities facilitate communal engagement and interaction.

South-west Sydney, particularly the Campbelltown region, has seen a rapid growth in Muslim population in recent years. Despite this, the majority of these Muslims represent ethnic minorities, and as a result, the provision of appropriate infrastructure and facilities to enable the upholding of religious and cultural identity is crucial.

The AMWC has been providing a range of welfare and wellbeing services to the community since its establishment. These include numerous religious and socio-cultural community events, including Eid congregations, Ramadan Iftar programs, Taraweeh prayers, Eid festivals, and regular programs for various important Islamic events. In addition, the AMWC has been involved with numerous community welfare activities, including charity collections for disaster victims and those suffering from poverty, in Australia and under-developed Muslim countries across the globe, wheelchair donations to local hospitals, and community events which raise awareness of global issues.

For years, community centres were hired to conduct AMWC’s programs and activities, but this was not sustainable. Recently, AMWC established a community facility within its expansive five-acre property, to cater for these events and activities. By having a community centre within its own premises, AMWC is able to facilitate for the requirements and necessities of a burgeoning Australian Muslim population in the area.

AMWC is also aiming to provide community facilities for the various sports and recreational needs for the men and women, boys and girls, youth and elders, of the Muslim community. To achieve these goals, the AMWC has recently submitted applications for $28 million worth of grants to the NSW Government under its WestInvest Grant program, for the development of following three infrastructure projects:

1. Multi-purpose indoor sports centre including separate male and female gymnasiums
2. Leisure centre including indoor swimming pools, spa and sauna
3. Outdoor children’s playground with an undercover BBQ facility

If successful, these projects will substantially improve the health and wellbeing, along with the social cohesion of the local Muslim community and extended Campbelltown region.
